Your carpet can take a beating. Not only can abrasive dirt wear down carpet fibers but did you know that poorly installed carpet can also cause your carpet some major problems. The number one problem people have when calling about carpet repair is buckling also known as rippling carpets. Take a look at the picture of the carpet above, this is what happens when your carpet begins to buckle. This is the cause of two reasons. The number one reason and most common is poor installation. When your carpets were first installed more than likely your carpets were installed by a sub-contractor. They're goal is to get your carpets stretched in and out as quickly as possible with very little effort. As a result they only use a knee kicker to install and stretch the carpet. What is required is a power stretcher as seen in the picture above. The second reason carpets become buckled is moving heavy furniture without picking the up the furniture. This can cause the carpet to loosen from the tack strip and this will also cause buckling. Not restreching the carpets will actually weaken the backing and making it prone to rip apart.
