When you have a carpet technician from TLC Carpet Care to inspect your carpets the technician may recommend using a urine pretreatment, designed to remove approximately 95% more of the bacteria that has been caused by urine deposits. Just mere steam cleaning alone will not remove the odors and in some cases it very well could make it worse. Unfortunately steam the carpets could cause the ammonia odors to become more airborne. Be wary of any carpet cleaning company who says they can. Often some companies will tell you what you want to here just to get your business. 

At TLC Carpet Care we use solutions to treat the remaining urine for any odor. There are many type of enzymes and each are designed to kill different types of organic odors, mostly from biologic organisims. Deodorizers will not work on strong odors as those type of chemicals merely mask and at first it may appear it's working but eventually the odor will return. The trick is to kill the source of the odor, not mask it.  Deodorizers sometimes will have fruity fragrances such as cherry or lemon. TLC Carpet Care odor neutralizers don't have any annoying perfumes as these can cause irrational for those with allergies or sensitivities.  

In more severe cases you may need use what is called a water claw. A water claw is used to insert and flush water and enzymes into the carpet and padding. This process floods the carpet and padding and then extracting everything from the padding and carpet. This process helps extract what normal steam cleaning with a wand cannot do. This is an extremely effective way to clean carpet and padding that has been saturated with urine in hard to reach areas.  Then the water claw extraction tool locks creating seal and the extraction removes nearly all the moisture and urine from the carpet and underlying pad. You can expect amazing results with the water claw took and enzyme treatment.
