What can I do if I spill something on my carpet ?
At TLC Carpet Care in Castle Rock we recommend some simple steps you can take clean a spill from your carpet:
1. Clean at once. Most third generation carpets are stain-resistant, which gives you some time to remove a spill, before the spill soaks into the carpet fibers. However, not all carpet fibers are protected especially if it's an older carpet.
2. Blot-don’t scrub the carpet. scrubbing can cause carpet distortion, which is another way of saying the fibers are frayed. Absorb the spill as quickly possible before using any carpet cleaner.
3. Vacuum dry soil and scrape up semi-solids with a dull knife, being careful not to cut into the fibers.
4. Pre-test any carpet cleaning solution you are using ahead of time. Due to the many dye combinations in the carpets and the effects of the spill, dye bleeding may can occur.
5. Be patient. A mild cleaning solution will be safer than a cleaner not intended for carpets.
6. Apply spotter to a clean absorbent white towel. Do not over saturate the spot with cleaner.
7. Work from the outside of the spot toward the center, this will help to keep the spill from getting wider and deeper.
8. Don’t put anything in you carpet that you know nothing about. Your better off doing nothing than using the wrong thing.
